In the Beginning there was the Ukes….

I wonder how many other people were inspired by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain… this classic performance from Jools Holland opened my eyes to the potential, and the sheer unadulterated fun, of the Ukulele:

Welcome to Uke Punk!

Uke Punk, that’s me…. but what is that? A punk playing a ukulele, or, a player of punk on a ukulele. Different things, different times, but this blog isn’t so much about me, its about it. The Uke. A instrument for us all. A truly peoples player. Inspired by the brilliant Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and equally by the riot folk I began playing the Ukulele (or ukelele as we say where I am from), and this blog is going to be about things I like about the ukelele, it’ll include songs I find, songs I tab, places I take my uke, video’s I like, and interesting links and stories I find, and of course the ukes I buy and ukes I fix up. It’ll also be about Punk, particularly the folk punk that has become a defining musical expression of the contemporary anti-capitalist movement. In many ways I’ll be making this up as I go along… but expect: anarchy, music, punk, folk, and most of all Ukes.
